Since getting my Through the Breach kickstarter loot the other day, I’ve browsed through some of The Fated Almanac. This is the “core rulebook” for the PCs of the game. I was curious how the game was going to approach races and classes, and the Malifaux factions. I have a background of playing the Pathfinder RPG so I wasn’t sure how similar or different this might be.
So far, it looks like all PCs are human. And they don’t belong to the factions of the table-top Malifaux game. (So sad, I was hoping to raise some more Neverborn hell.) Again, I haven’t read it in too much depth, but it sounds like most of your stats and stuff will be decided by your fate deck (through a fate tarot situation), but you do get to choose your “pursuit”. If you’re familiar with Pathfinder or D&D, the pursuit is basically your class.
There are some cool pursuits. I’ve already, just through a cursory once-over, figured which pursuits I’m likely to do. I really like the Criminal, the Dabbler, and the Scrapper. I was looking around for a picture of the Criminal’s artwork online to use as an icon here but no luck. I’ve got the art for the Tinkerer pursuit I’m using as an icon now. The artwork, as usual, really awesome in the books.
The 2 characters on the cover of the Fated Almanac are the Mercenary and the Guard. The character on the cover of the Fatemaster’s Almanac is the Tinkerer.
Not sure when I’m actually going to get to play a game, but I hope it won’t be too far into the future. Until then, I’ll be browsing the books and harassing my significant other to put together some of the minis. I haven’t opened those up yet to see how many minuscule pieces there might be. We just started getting into Warmachine, so our current minis painting budget is tied up until October. But I do want to get some assembled so we can see how they look.
